Author Submission Policy

1. What we are looking for

We publish carefully developed fiction and selected nonfiction: literary and contemporary fiction, mystery and thriller, historical fiction, memoir, poetry, practical guides, and inspirational titles. We are drawn to a distinctive voice, a clear reason for the book to exist, and an author who wants to work on it with us.

We do not currently acquire children’s picture books, educational textbooks, technical manuals, or works generated substantially by automated tools without meaningful authorship.

2. What to send

• The complete manuscript for fiction, poetry, and memoir; a proposal with three sample chapters is acceptable for practical nonfiction.
• A synopsis of no more than two pages that includes the ending.
• A short description of the reader you are writing for and two or three comparable titles.
• A brief author note covering relevant publication history.

Accepted file formats are PDF, DOC, DOCX, RTF, and TXT. Please keep files under 10 MB and send one file per submission.

3. How to send it

Use the submission form, which collects everything our readers need and prepares an email for you to attach the manuscript to. You may also email your material directly to montavellumpublishinginc@gmail.com with the manuscript title in the subject line.

4. How we review

Every submission is read by an acquisitions editor. Promising manuscripts are circulated to a second reader and discussed at our editorial meeting. Our typical initial review period is 8 to 12 weeks; longer manuscripts and busy submission periods can extend this. If you have not heard from us after 14 weeks, please follow up — messages occasionally go astray.

We are not able to provide detailed editorial feedback on every submission we decline. Where a manuscript comes close, we try to say why.

5. Simultaneous submissions and resubmissions

Simultaneous submissions are welcome. Please notify us promptly if another publisher offers representation or publication so that we can prioritise our reading.

We consider resubmissions only where the manuscript has been substantially revised, and preferably where we invited one. Mention the earlier submission in your covering note.

6. Your rights and material

You retain all rights in your manuscript. Sending a submission does not create a contract, an agency relationship, or any obligation on either side. Nothing is licensed to Montavellum unless and until a written publishing agreement is signed by both parties.

You confirm, by submitting, that the work is your own, that you own or control the rights necessary to submit it, and that it does not infringe the rights of any third party.

7. Confidentiality and unsolicited ideas

We treat submissions as confidential within our editorial team and do not share them outside the company without your permission. However, we receive a large volume of material and cannot accept responsibility for similarities between a submitted work and any work we publish that was developed independently.

Please do not send confidential information, and do not send your only copy of any material.

8. Retention and deletion

Declined submissions and their attachments are retained for up to twelve months and then deleted, unless you ask us to remove them sooner. To request deletion, email us with the manuscript title and the address you submitted from.

9. Fees

Montavellum does not charge reading fees, submission fees, or any contribution toward production costs. If anyone claiming to represent Montavellum asks you for payment to be published, please report it to us immediately.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as our list and processes change. The version in force is the one published on this page at the time of your submission.
